What is a Gender Club?

A Gender Club is a school based organization that gives youth the opportunity to make their voices heard. The club is run by its members and supervised by a teacher and/or mentor. The club meets after school and is a means of encouraging youth participation, engagement, critical thinking and problem solving.

The club has been successful in developing new positive attitudes, a change in perspective, and the implementation of healthy behaviors. Studies show that when youth are involved in sharing their ideas, they can make a difference in the world around them.

This Gender Club shows successful gender inclusive learning.

Government Bilingual High School Bafia has one of the very first gender clubs in the region, thanks to Ms. Feka. Gender clubs have been shown to be a successful method of promoting open discussions and collaborative learning outside of the classroom. GBHS Bafia's Club participates in community service activities as well as city/nationwide activities that support healthy living.

Gender Inclusive Learning and Gender Clubs are supported by the US Embassy, US Department of State Education and Cultural Affairs, and imiplemented by IREX.
